The Standing, Transition, and Consecration Committees Announce the Consecration Date for the Ninth Bishop

Search Committee Retreat_Edited

Dear Diocesan Family,

Many of your fellow siblings in Christ gathered this past weekend to launch the next stage of our journey to call the Ninth Bishop of the Diocese of West Missouri, and it was a joyous gathering.

While in retreat at St. Andrew’s in Kansas City, The Standing Committee met with the fully formed Transition and Consecration Committees to begin their essential work. After recapping some of the journey led by the Bishop Search Committee, we began to focus on the future. Much of what you’ve heard from the Standing Committee and BSC has been focused on our work through July. While this is significant and vital work, it is only part of our journey.

For part of our retreat, each committee assembled to start planning in earnest. Part of the planning of the Transition Committee included an initial discussion on how our future candidates will be introduced to you. While the process is still early and details have yet to be formalized, you can expect to see the candidates in and around the Diocese from September 16th to September 21st. The exact details will be shared with you by the Transition Committee at a later time. Their plans are exciting and will show each candidate the incredible work that all of you do each day in your parishes and communities.

Additionally, the Consecration Committee learned of the many details that go into the consecration of our future bishop. While they have some time, and you may not hear from them until after the election, there is exciting news to announce. Be sure to mark your calendars for May 3rd, 2025 as the consecration date for our Ninth Bishop Diocesan. This is truly exciting to share with you as we work through this process. An entire timeline of our search can be viewed on the website.

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? -Isaiah 43:19

The Standing, Transition, and Consecration Committees

"O Creator God, giver of every good gift, look graciously on us in the Diocese of West Missouri and guide us as we discern our call of a new bishop. O Jesus, be present in our discernment, and lead us to a shepherd who will invite us to live out the Gospel every day. O Holy Spirit, inspire us with your wisdom, and kindle our hearts with the fire of your love, that we may be renewed as we prepare to welcome the ministry of our next bishop. This we ask trusting in You. Amen."
